Laley is the fan-given name of the friendship between Lucas Scott and Haley James Scott. They have been best friends from childhood. When Haley first hung out with Lucas she had a big family and when she saw it was just Karen and Lucas she decided they needed her more and hung around. They have always been really close and Haley's relationship with Nathan impacted it a little bit but they’ve been able to go through it.

Season 1[]
Lucas and Haley have been friends for ages, long before the pilot episode. Later on, their friendship is compromised because of the love affair between her and Nathan. Their friendship eventually heals and Haley's love for Nathan leads to a civil relationship between Lucas and Nathan. Sadly, their friendship cracks again, when she decides to leave for the tour along with Chris Keller. Lucas reaches Haley backstage at the concert and tries to convince her to return with him to Tree Hill but she tells him she can't return, because her life is now this and so Lucas, shot down, goes back to Tree Hill alone.
Season 2[]
Lucas and Haley remain separated because she remains on tour. He tries to convince her to come back, telling her that her husband wants a divorce. So Haley, with the help of her best friend, decides to go back to Nathan. Lucas gives Nathan his support, trying to convince him that Haley still loves him, and that's why she came home. Meanwhile, Lucas and Haley's friendship grows stronger.
Season 3[]
The friendship between Lucas and Haley remains very strong, and when she and Nathan decide to get married again, she asks Lucas to be the best man. At the wedding the two talk, confiding in each other and hugging. Haley asks Lucas to walk her down the aisle, since her father isn't there to do it. Of course he says yes, and they are both joyous in their renewed friendship.
Season 4[]
Lucas and Karen find a hysterical Haley on the bridge following the wedding reception. Nathan has dived into the water searching for his uncle, Cooper, and Rachel, who stole the limousine and forced Cooper to drive it off the bridge. Lucas dives and pulls them all to safety.
After the Ravens win the state championship on Lucas' last-second shot, he tells Haley he has started a relationship with Peyton. Sadly, the joyous night turns tragic when Haley is run over by a car driven by loan shark Daunte Jones. As Haley is lying on the ground unconscious, Lucas calls 911 and attempts to give paramedics her information before he succumbs to a heart attack. Haley and Lucas are hospitalized simultaneously, with Nathan, Peyton, Karen, Deb, Dan and Brooke keeping vigil.
Despite being near her due date, Haley is there for Lucas when Karen is rushed unconscious to the hospital due to complications with her pregnancy. Haley, Nathan, Peyton and Deb all greet Lucas' newborn sister, who is later named Lily Roe Scott.
At the party following graduation, Lucas tells an overjoyed Haley he has been hired by Whitey to be the assistant basketball coach at Gilmore College, where Nathan will be playing.
Season 5[]
After reading Lucas' second novel, The Comet, Haley convinces Lucas not to marry Lindsey, feeling that Lucas' true love is Peyton. Lucas ignores her, but the wedding, with Haley as Matron of Honor, is called off regardless when Lindsey leaves him at the altar.
Lucas continues to pursue Lindsey, but finally gives up when he is convinced she is seeing someone else. Lucas gets drunk at TRIC and is taken home by Peyton. When Lucas comes to, he tells Peyton he hates her, forcing Haley to patch things up between her friends.
Season 6[]
Lucas texts Haley from Las Vegas in the season opener, while Brooke receives a simultaneous text from Peyton. When Lucas returns to Tree Hill, Haley is the first to find out he and Peyton are engaged.
Haley tries on Lucas' engagement ring he purchased Peyton. Peyton declines the gaudy ring, instead asking for the simpler ring Keith proposed to Karen with.
Haley performs Lucas and Haley's wedding ceremony. Later, when Peyton is rushed into the emergency room after collapsing at home, Haley is the first to join Lucas, followed by Nathan, Brooke and Julian.
Season 9[]
Lucas briefly comes back to Tree Hill to take Jamie and Lydia back to his house, so that Haley can continue to look for Nathan.
