Plot[]

This episode opens in a quote with Haley writing another letter to Lucas. She explains how surprised and sad she is to hear from so many people that are struggling. Haley receives another call from the same woman at the end of the last episode. Brooke is being recorded by Julian for his documentary and she discusses how her family lost their financial status in high school and how she wanted to make something for herself so that the same thing wouldn't happen to her. Brooke says that her company, "Clothes Over Bros", has declared bankruptcy, resulting in the loss of all money from the investors. Brooke goes on to explain that she is going to pay her investors back and the only way she can do so is by selling the company and give up all of her own personal money. Julian acknowledges the fact that she is under no obligation to do so and Brooke explains that it is the right thing to do. Julian then asks Brooke, "what comes next?" and she responds stating she doesn't know but that now she has to tell her mom she’s selling her company. At the Scott residence, Jamie runs into the bathroom where Quinn is about to remove her bandage but she decides not to take it off. Haley comes in and tells her that she needs to take it off, per doctor's orders. Quinn removes the bandage and Haley and Jamie leave the room in disgust. Nathan goes to the rivercourt, finding Mouth there. Mouth tells Nathan he goes there a lot to think and Nathan says he does that as well. Mouth asks if there is anything he can help with and Nathan reminds him of the last time he helped him, Mouth ended up getting fired. Nathan tells Mouth how much he respects him for not reporting the false accusations from Renee. Mouth thanks him and states he wishes a TV station would hire him. He tells Nathan about the podcast he has been working on but the only people who listen in is Millie. Nathan states that he thinks Mouth wouldn't redo the choices he made because it is who Mouth is, someone everyone respects. Jamie is looking at Nathan's baseball card for the Charlotte Bobcats when Nathan asks him how it feels to be grounded. Jamie responds stating he is bored and asks if Nathan has told Clay about his decision to retire. Nathan says no and reminds Jamie that Clay is trying to heal and recover. Jamie isn't surprised and argues that Nathan, Haley, and Quinn worry about stuff that doesn't matter. Jamie convinces Nathan to tell Clay and says to Nathan that he wishes he was still a bobcat but is supportive of his decision and adds that Clay will support it to. Brooke visits Victoria in jail revealing a newspaper stating the company is closed. Victoria is furious and yells at Brooke saying that she gave away "her" company. Victoria corrects herself and says "our" company and that what Brooke did is unforgivable. Brooke claims it was the right thing to do and Victoria disagrees. Brooke states that the investors and other people believed in her. Victoria responds that she did as well and that it ended up with her in prison. Victoria claims Brooke went back to being a stupid girl who follows her heart and that she never liked that version of her. Victoria tells Brooke not to visit her again and leaves.

Julian visits Nathan after interviewing Clay for his documentary. Nathan asks if Julian told Clay about his retirement and Julian says he didn't because Jamie claims Nathan avoids things. Nathan jokes about taking Jamie's PlayStation away and Julian offers up his baseball glove for Jamie. Julian thinks that Jamie should own it instead since he loves baseball so much. Nathan thanks Julian and tells him that he should consider Mouth for his documentary since Mouth is starting over. At the hospital, Clay is eating and practicing his motor skills when Nathan walks in. Nathan then states that he is there for Clay as he finally gets to go home. Clay then argues that Nathan should be away at camp because of his contract and tells Nathan that ISC, his former sports agent company he used to work for, will represent him for a while along with Clay's other clients. Clay says that it is his only option as he is still recovering. Nathan leads the conversation about his retirement about appreciating how hard Clay worked for him to remain with the Charlotte Bobcats but tells Clay that his back is getting worse. Nathan says he thought a lot about it and thinks it's time for him to stop playing. Clay apologizes and says that this situation must be hard on him. Nathan then questions him and tells him not to say that because he was worried his retirement would hurt Clay. Clay responds telling Nathan that he is his best friend and client but that his health comes first. Nathan then tells him that he has known about his back since Clay got shot and Clay teases him telling him he avoids things. Clay explains that if he had known there was any issues with his back, then he wouldn't have let him play and asks Nathan what he will do next. Nathan responds with helping his best friend to recover. Haley meets Brooke under the bridge where she and Peyton always went to. Haley complains about it claiming she was Tutor Girl and wasn't cool enough to be under the bridge. Brooke reveals to Haley that she told her mom she is selling the company and how she yelled at Brooke. Haley responds with telling Brooke that her mom always yells at her. Brooke states that it was different this time as she was very upset. Haley then argues that if Victoria hadn't made the decisions she did with the company, then she wouldn't have ended up in jail leaving Brooke to have to sell Clothes Over Bros and puts the fault on Victoria. Brooke says she's right but reflects on the success, money, press, awards, and celebrities were all part of getting her mom to love and be proud of her. Haley receives a call for help from Mia and Brooke and Haley leave to help her.

At Tric, Haley and Brooke spot Mia who hushes them as they arrive. Mia asks Brooke and Haley if they think Alex and Chase are sleeping together yet. Haley says no but Brooke claims they were before Chase even knew Alex's name. Mia reveals the voodoo doll she made of Alex and Haley tells her she needs to start performing again and offers to book her a show. Haley then turns to Brooke and tells her to get a drink after everything her mom has done. Julian shows up at Mouth's. Julian asks if Mouth would be interested in the documentary and he immediately agrees, asking how much it pays, and if he could start today. Julian responds with having a lot to do today and Mouth tells him how lonely he has been. Mouth argues that he should clear his schedule and get into filming it right away as Mouth needs it. Quinn visits Clay and tells her that he was worrying about ISC stealing his clients but then remembered he gets to be with Quinn every day and that is better than anything. He also teases her about her wound dressing change as Jamie told Clay all about it. Clay reminds her that it was a miracle and that they need to remember that. Back at Mouth's, Julian is cleaning his camera and tells Mouth to be natural and go about his normal everyday life. Mouth reveals himself in a suit, drinking coffee, and reading the newspaper. He looks at the camera and talks about the market and being sore from working out. Mouth then receives a call from Chase and offers to help Mouth out and give him an opportunity at Tric. Chase asks Mouth to agree to it while Julian is still filming him and denies the offer and hangs up. Mouth then drops condoms on the floor, making Julian stop filming and questions Mouth. Julian tells Mouth that the only way the documentary will work is if he can actually film him doing things he truly does during the day. Mouth tells him how boring that will be and pans to Mouth sitting on the couch watching TV in his pajamas and waiting for the phone to ring. Haley is finishing up a call when Nathan walks in to her office at Red Bedroom Records. Nathan asks Haley if he avoids things and she denies it. Nathan then tells Haley he talked to Clay and she says that he did avoid having that conversation. Haley asks if it was disappointing and Nathan says it was for him because Clay was so supportive. Haley tells Nathan she booked a show for Mia in Portland and he asks if Haley will go. Haley responds stating she doesn't know as Nathan encourages her to go as her pregnancy is progressing. Haley then takes Nathan over to the pool table and tells him to make a shot and do whatever he wants to her. Nathan misses the shot saying Haley makes him nervous and Haley makes one for him. They both start making out as Mia and Brooke walk in. Haley tells Mia about her show in Portland that Mia must go to and Haley will go with her. Brooke stays to talk to Nathan about being the only one giving up something he loves and dealing with a parent in jail. He then says that Brooke is dealing with that as well and asks how it has been. Brooke says it has not been great and Nathan responds with stating she will have Julian by her side and that everything will turn out okay for her. Nathan then offers up his and Haley's support for Brooke. Nathan then receives a phone call and immediately goes to see Clay.

Nathan tells Clay to tell them, ISC, no. Clay asks why and Nathan says that ISC wants him to risk playing even with his deteriorating back because of the new contract. Nathan calls ISC "douchebags" and that those agents shouldn't be let anywhere near Clay's clients. Clay tells Nathan he can barely get around and Nathan offers himself. Nathan then tells Clay that he wants to help Clay and his client's. He tells Clay that he can run everything from his beach house and when he can't, he should send Nathan. Nathan reminds Clay of why he named his agency Fortitude and that him and Clay could run it together, marking the beginning of their agency partnership. At Tric, Alex is reading a script but hides it from Chase. Chase asks if the one she is reading is any good and Alex says she won't bring them into work if it bothers him. Chase tells Alex it's fine and that he was just curious and says she looks amazing. Alex says he is amazing and that he was also amazing last night. At Mouth's Julian is packing up his camera as Mouth offers him to hang out. There is a knock at the door and Mouth goes to hide, as he hasn't been paying rent, and it happens to be Nathan. Nathan reminds Mouth of the meaning of fortitude and that it is something Mouth needs to consider. Jamie is looking for something in the garage when he comes across Nathan's old wheelchair. Haley comes home to find Jamie upset and petting Chester on his bed. Haley asks what is going on and Jamie says he has been thinking about his dad and the bobcats. Haley asks if Jamie is sad and Jamie responds stating he is just worried. He reminds Haley of the last time Nathan couldn't play basketball since he was in the wheelchair. Jamie says he is scared his dad will be sad again and Haley tells him that that won't happen again. She tells Jamie that this time will be different because he is leaving basketball instead of the other way around. Brooke is taking out pages in her wedding planner of things that would be too expensive to include in her and Julian's wedding. Julian walks in and asks what has been going on. Brooke tells Julian what her mom said to her and Julian says that Victoria can be a bitch sometimes. Julian reminds Brooke about how she gave up a company she built and made successful to fix a mistake Victoria made while also giving up her own money. He asks Brooke if he should tell her how screwed up that is or if she should. Back at jail, Brooke visits her mom and tells her how she tried all of her life to make her mom proud. Brooke says that she will never call her stupid or speak the way she did to her again. She goes on to explain that if she doesn't make the right decisions, Victoria will not be apart of her wedding or her life.

Quinn goes back to the hospital to take Clay home when Clay surprises her with a dress. Instead of being wheeled out they decide to walk out in Quinn's new dress and in Clay's new suit and are applauded by the hospital staff and Nathan, Haley, and Jamie. Jamie showers their exit with confetti. Chase finds Alex's script and decides to flip through it, finding notes she left in the margins. He goes to confront her, asking when the movies starts. Alex tells Chase he wasn't supposed to read it and Chase responds saying she wasn't supposed to lie about it either. Alex reminds Chase that she is an actress and that he can't get mad at her for taking on a movie role. Chase says he is happy she is but states he is upset that she lied about it. Alex says she didn't mean to and he asks if she took it before the job at Tric. Alex says she did but it wasn't financed and wasn't supposed to start for a while. Chase asks when it actually starts and Alex reveals that she has to leave the following week. Chase nearly leaves but Alex reminds him that they have a week. She tells him how much she likes him, more than he knows and asks if they can enjoy the week and then figure things out. Alex tells Chase that she will come back to him and that they can make it work. Chase disagrees and leaves telling Alex she shouldn't have lied to him. Clay and Quinn walk into the living room of their beach house and then go to their bedroom that no longer has blood stains left on the floor. Quinn locks their backdoor and tells Clay they will be okay. Nathan looks at all of the jerseys hanging on Jamie's wall when Haley walks in. He talks about how he has been playing basketball since he was 4 years old and always knew it would come to an end one day, but didn't know today would be the day. Haley tells Nathan that Jamie is worried about him and wants to know that he will be okay without basketball. Nathan asks how his wife is and Haley says she is just fine and knows her husband will be fine as well. Nathan assures Haley he will be fine because of her. At Brooke's store, Haley walks in and looks around at Brooke's empty store when she finds Brooke sitting on the floor. Haley tells Brooke that Nathan has his press conference and Brooke says she has hers as well and says that a lot of things are ending. Haley assures her that instead, things are beginning. Haley reminds Brooke of the time she started Clothes Over Bros in high school in the apartment they shared together in season 3 when she was sad about a boy and Haley told her to focus on her talent. Now, Haley is telling her the opposite and to focus on her life instead of her work because she is young, beautiful, and in love. Brooke has a wedding to plan and an amazing man who loves her. Haley tells her to focus on Julian and everything will work itself out. Brooke responds with "Bros Over Clothes" as new saying for her plan. Nathan then starts his press conference explaining his thoughts and reasoning behind his choice to retire with Haley and Jamie by his side. Brooke starts her press conference about wanting to make changes that she can no longer make and it pans to Alex leaving her hotel room and Victoria watching Brooke's press conference from jail. Nathan says he will not take any questions as a long interview was conducted by Mouth McFadden on mcfaddensports.com. Brooke then states she will not be taking any questions but ensures that the investors know they will all be paid back in full as the company's mistake shouldn't cost them anything. Jamie and Nathan are playing baseball in their backyard as Haley watches from her bedroom window. Mouth is receiving more attention on his website after the interview with Nathan. Clay is sleeping peacefully while Quinn is tossing and turning next to him. Brooke talks to Julian about switching up their dessert choices for their wedding when Julian tells her how proud he is of her and how he can't wait to marry her. Nathan is tucking Jamie into bed while both Brooke and Nathan say in their press conference goodbye to the current chapters in their lives and that they look forward to what comes next.

Memorable Quotes[]

"Dear Lucas, Well, I've been volunteering at a Crisis Center for a couple of weeks now. I'm struck by the number of people who are struggling in this world. And as much as that saddens me, I'm also humbled by their strength and the courage they display in the face of their struggles."
Haley James Scott letter to Lucas Scott

"Besides that glove belongs on the hand of someone who loves the game. Me, I used to stand out in right field and chase butterflies. Trust me, the glove respects what I'm doing here."
"I'm sure it does. Probably doesn't respect that you brought it here in a purse though."
"That's a man bag."
"If that's your story."
Julian Baker and Nathan Scott

"Ugh!"
"I thought you weren't coming."
"Under the bridge? Really?"
"What? We always came here."
"You and Peyton always came here. I was tutor girl. I wasn't cool "hangout under the bridge" girl. I've been searching under every damn bridge in Tree Hill. The homeless love me by now."
"Sorry. I turned my phone off."
"We can talk now, Brooke Davis. Crisis Intervention. How can I help you?"
"So, I told my mom I'm selling the company... And she yelled at me."
"Your mom always yells at you."
"Not like this. She was really upset... Like, 'no going back' upset."
"Brooke, if your mom hadn't made the choices that she made in the first place, she wouldn't be going to prison, and you wouldn't have to sell your company. This is all her own fault."
"I know you're right. It's just… After all the success… After all the money... The press, the awards, the celebrity... It's just been about getting my mom to love me.. To tell me she's proud of me, That's all it's ever been."
"Yeah. That's all it ever is."
Haley James Scott and Brooke Davis

"Before I go, I just need to tell you something. All my life I tried to make you proud of me. Every decision I have made, every success, every failure, I wondered what you would think of me. I think I have done pretty well. I understand business. I understand what we could do. I also understand what's fair, what's right, and what's honorable. Do I want you to accept this and to support it and to be proud of me for it? Yes. But if you don't, it doesn't matter to me. Maybe for the first time. Oh that's fine mother, roll your eyes but hear me when I say to you that today was the last time you will ever call me stupid or speak to me the way that you did. I love you mom but if you can't accept this, the decision I have made, then I won't visit you and you are not to visit me. Not for my wedding, not ever again. What comes next is up to you."
Brooke Davis to Victoria Davis

"Letting go is never easy. As athletes, we have an expiration date, and even if our professional careers are substantial, that expiration date comes pretty early. Sometimes our... our hearts are willing, but our bodies say no. And that happens to be the case with me. Because of this, I'll be leaving the game of basketball."
"Obviously, there are thing I regret... Things I would like to take back... Things I would change if I could. But we all have to live with the residue of our choices... And the consequences of our actions."
"I know that some of you may be concerned for me, concerned that I might be struggle with the fact that my career has been cut short. As Lou Gehrig said, "Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth". Finally, I won't be taking any questions tonight. Instead, there's a long interview conducted by Mouth McFadden at his website, mcfaddensports.com."
"I won't be taking any questions tonight. But to ensure the investors of my company, now my former company, that you will be paid back in full 100%. Our mistakes shouldn't cost you a penny, and they won't. People say 'it's just business', ‘Don't take it personally’. Well, I think business is as personal as it gets. Just because the system allows it, it doesn't make it right."
"Some people never get to touch their dreams. Never get to know what that feels like never find that thing they love or get to do it for a living. So, is it a tragedy to have that taken away from you? No. The tragedy would be to lie awake at night, wondering, what if?"
"For those of you who believed in me once, I hope you can believe in me again..."
'For now, I say goodbye to this chapter of my life... And I look forward to what comes next."
Nathan Scott and Brooke Davis at their press conferences.
