The following are the details of the relationships that Peyton Sawyer has been a part of throughout and before the series.

Lucas Scott
Start Up: Life in a Glass House
Marriage: Forever and Almost Always

Relationship: Husband and Love of her Life
Details: Looking back, Peyton felt a strong and intense connection to Lucas from the moment their eyes first met at the very beginning of Pilot. They first spoke right after in the same episode when her car broke down near a lake and he came to help her with his tow truck. At that time she was dating Nathan Scott, Lucas' half-brother. She went out of her way to treat Lucas bad at first, even though the sparks between them became immediately clear. Despite her initial nasty behaviour, he showed her nothing but kindness, respect and encouraged her belief in her artwork, things she clearly never had with Nathan, so she broke up with him and made her move towards Lucas at a party, sharing their first kiss. In that moment, she was just thinking of a one night stand, but when he made it clear how strongly he felt about her, she was too frightened off to let him in due to her traumatic past, so she ran away. He later helped to rescue her when she was drugged and nearly raped at a college party, occasion during which she apologized for her behaviour. Then, she confessed that she reciprocated his feelings only to discover he had got involved with her best friend Brooke Davis. He chose to remain with Brooke out of fear of being rejected again by Peyton, making her very jealous of the two of them, though she decided to be supportive. While he was helping her through a hard time, they gave into their feelings, which were too strong to resist anymore, and became secret lovers behind Brooke's back. They didn't consider the consequences until Lucas broke up with Brooke in order to be with her as he knew she was the one for him. Feeling guilty about how upset Brooke was, Peyton tearfully ended their relationship despite loving Lucas. In the end, a rift was formed between them and painfully lasted months. Peyton went through a dark time and Lucas, despite their problems, found a way to help her anyway asking Jake, with whom she had bonded while away from him, to come back into her life after he had left Tree Hill, but he soon went away again, this time for good, leaving her heartbroken. During the summer, the pain of Jake's departure and the shock for Ellie's arrival were very hard on her, but she and Lucas had finally mended their friendship and he was there to help and support her, resulting in their bond becoming stronger than it has ever been. Then, at the beginning of senior year, she watched Lucas and Brooke getting back together despite slowly realizing her feelings for him were resurfacing and, during the school shooting, she was struck in the leg and Lucas put his life on the line to save her: the whole situation led her to tell him she loved him, then they shared a brief but meaningful kiss. Later, they pretended it meant nothing and was a simple act of gratitude on her part in order to spare Brooke's pain. Tired of being alone, she visited Jake in Savannah and rekindled her relationship with him and went so far as to propose, but when she said that she loved Lucas in her sleep, Jake told her to go home and figure out who was the one for her since Lucas clearly still was in her heart. She immediately realized Lucas was the one for her, prompting her to admit the truth to Brooke: enraged, she ended their friendship and fought with Lucas too when she learned about the kiss. Then, she broke up with him, understanding they had no real emotional connection even regardless of Peyton. Lucas then saved Peyton's life again when she was deceived by a guy who turned out to be an internet stalker. Once Lucas and Brooke decided to end their romantic chapter for good after one last date as they definitely realized they were not right for each other and not meant to be, Peyton declared her love to him, leaving him speechless because totally unprepared. It was only after the State Championship the next night he realized that he still loved her too and she was the one for him all along, so they finally began an official committed relationship for the first time. They found themselves blissfully happy together, finally made love for the first time and stayed together until after graduation. She then moved to LA to pursue a career in the music business with his unconditional support while he went to a college close to home to help his mom with Lily and Nathan and Haley with his godson and nephew Jamie. Distance made things hard for them, so about one year later he payed her a surprise visit and proposed, but she felt not ready yet and wanted to wait, turning him down. He saw this as a rejection and returned home, ending their relationship. The two then remained separated for about three years (during which he became a published author). When Peyton returned to Tree Hill to win him back because she was still in love with him, Lucas had entered in a relationship with Lindsey, his editor: this caused him a lot of trouble because it was crystal clear he was still in love with her too, but he was in deep denial because of his fear to open up to her again and get another rejection and went too far proposing to Lindsey. Peyton asked Lucas not to marry Lindsey, but in the end she told him she would have been supportive because she wanted him to be happy, with or without her. On the wedding day, Lindsey finally understood the meaning of Lucas' new book, "The Comet" (it was a clear unconscious metaphor about Lucas' everlasting love for Peyton), so she left him at the altar. After getting past the pain and depression, Lucas eventually realized that Lindsey was right all along, so he reunited with Peyton. They immediately moved in together in his house and finally began their new adult life together while organizing their wedding. Shortly after, they learnt that Peyton was pregnant with their first child, but their joy became worry and fear when they discovered she had a condition called placenta previa, meaning she could have died if she had the baby. Lucas was scared and freaked out, but Peyton insisted on taking the risk and carry on with the pregnancy, so in the end he decided to respect her will and be completely supportive. They also decided not to wait to get married and they organized their wedding by the lake where they first spoke. Back at home that night, she collapsed and went into labor: she gave birth to a baby girl, whom they eventually called Sawyer Brooke Scott, and fortunately survived. Then, Lucas and Peyton decided to leave Tree Hill for good with Sawyer and start a new life elsewhere, finally living happily ever after.

Nathan Scott
Start Up: Before Pilot
Break Up: Crash Into You
Relationship: Ex-Boyfriend
Details: During their first two years of high school, Nathan Scott, the basketball star, entered a romance with the lonely cheerleader, Peyton Sawyer. They had a very argumentative relationship that often had them breaking up and then reuniting with each other several times each week. Nathan showed little interest in Peyton and her likes, other than for sex. Then Peyton met Lucas and learned what it was like to have a guy in her life who respected her and treated her well. The last straw was her learning about Lucas' mom Karen Roe and how she had let Dan Scott treat her like crap. Refusing to repeat the same pattern she ended things with Nathan. He didn't take it seriously at first, But gave up after she made it clear she had moved on to Lucas. Once Nathan became involved with Haley he became a changed person. Nathan and Peyton went on to form a very close friendship. She helped Nathan when things got tough while Haley was on tour, even though she was struggling with problems of her own. She became Nathan's sister-in-law when she married Lucas.

Jake Jagielski
Start Up: Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows (first time)
Everyday Is a Sunday Evening (second time)
Break Up: The Tide That Left and Never Came Back (first time)
Over the Hills and Far Away (second time)
Relationship: Ex-Boyfriend
Details: Peyton first showed a sort of interest in Jake when he performed with his guitar one night at Karen's cafe. It was clear the interest was mutual. After her brief story with Lucas ended badly, she and Jake spent more time together. She would babysit Jenny, being the first person outside his family he trusted to do so. Then, Nicki, Jenny’s mother, returned and started battling him for custody, so Peyton and her dad helped Jake leave town to protect his daughter. She later told Brooke that she wasn't totally sure if her interest in him was real or if she was just rebounding from Lucas. After his departure, she tried to stay in touch with him, but he never responded to her e-mails. Over the next few weeks, Peyton battled depression. Lucas, whom Peyton didn’t trust enough in that moment to let him in, got very worried and found a way to help her anyway by contacting Jake, asking him to return and knowing he would help her: Jake came back, sparking a turnaround for Peyton, and they began living together. Their feelings grew and they began a relationship, but the day after they had sex for the first time, Nicki returned to launch another custody fight, so Jake ended up in jail to protect Jenny: all this put a strain on Peyton, but Lucas was there for her, offering his support. In the end, Nicki got hold of Jenny and fled, so Jake decided to go after her: Peyton wanted to follow him, but he prevented her from doing so because her life was in Tree Hill. He urged her to let him go and left, breaking her heart. Then, Lucas was again there for her and helped her get back on her feet, leading them to rekindle their friendship and make their bond stronger than it has ever been. It was months later that Jake contacted Peyton again after hearing about her being injured in the school shooting. Eventually, Peyton decided she was tired of being alone and paid Jake a visit in Savannah. They rekindled their relationship and she told him about losing Ellie and how lonely she had become. When Jenny called her "mama", Peyton saw a chance to have a real family again, so she decided to stay and proposed to Jake, who happily accepted, but soon he heard her mumble "I love you Lucas" in her sleep. After confronting her and learning that she told Lucas she loved him and they kissed the day of the shooting, he realized she was in denial about her true feelings for Lucas because she was terrified of hurting Brooke again. He told her to go home and figure out who she truly loved. He promised to be there if she had figured Lucas wasn't the one for her, but once at home she accepted how she really felt and that she was still in love with Lucas, so she never came back, ending her relationship with Jake for good.

Pete Wentz
Start Up: Just Watch the Fireworks
Ended: When It Isn't Like It Should Be

Relationship: Fling
Details: Peyton first met Pete when he performed in the concert for Ellie's cancer benefits CD "Friends With Benefit". They sparks were obvious and they spent more time together, but his busy schedule made it very difficult. He was her first love interest since Jake left and she happily told her friends about it. But no one really believed her stories until he tuned up at the retreat where they were all attempting to move past the shooting. They spent a romantic evening together and Pete later invited her to visit him in Chicago. Her father was tolerant of this at first, as he was helping her get past what happened. But he insisted she should be with a guy who respected and loved her. So in the end she broke up with Pete and instead tried to rekindle her romance with Jake.

Break Up: Between All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone and 4 Years, 6 Months, 2 Days, seen in Sympathy for the Devil)
Relationship: Ex-Boyfriend
Details: Julian and Peyton met in L.A. and started dating after Peyton refused Lucas Scott’s proposal and they split up. Peyton and Julian eventually moved in together and, as Peyton described it, "fell in love". Peyton later hears some untrue rumors about Julian and develops a low opinion of him. So when Julian arrived in Tree Hill with an offer to make Lucas' book into a movie she was very suspicious. She assumed he was either there for revenge or to win her back. But she hesitated to tell Lucas about their past fearing how he would react. He eventually found out on his own. This caused some tension, but Peyton encouraged him to keep doing the movie despite his distaste for Julian, knowing it was important to him. When Brooke got interested in him, Peyton told her some things about Julian and almost derailed things. But after meeting with Julian's dad (who she was very close to) she found out that her low opinion of Julian was unwarranted. She encouraged Brooke to give him another chance and he turned out to be the love of her life.
